Things are always changing and there is always lots to find out and share. This is an evening for grown-ups and not children on this occasion. Please bring the requested documentation with you, if you haven't already brought them to school.

Kittens Pre School Sessions – Week commencing 9th June to week ending 4th July

We are pleased to be able to offer weekly pre school sessions for your child. These sessions will take place on Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.  Sessions are as follows;

  • Tuesday 10th June until Tuesday 1st July, 9 – 11am
  • Tuesday 10th June until Tuesday 1st July, 12:45-2.45pm
  • Thursday 12th June until Thursday 3rd July, 9 – 11am

If you would like your child to attend Kittens. You should choose your preferred day/session. We expect the children who attend Kittens to come to all of the  sessions as we follow an exciting learning journey about growing up and starting school. Parents and carers do not stay to the sessions, you can drop your child off and pick them up later.

Senior school leaders and teachers/teaching assistants from the EYFS team will be leading the sessions. There are twenty five places available in each session and this provision is expected to be very popular. If you would like to enrol your child as a Kitten please phone the school office and complete an enrolment form by Friday 6th June to secure your child's place.

Which class will my child be in? – Monday 30th June

We have four Early Years Foundation Stage classes (EYFS). We will send you and your child a letter to say which class they will be in at this time. The letter will be addressed to your child and it will have a photograph of their teachers on it.

Class Visits for Children and Information Sessions for Parents

Your child will visit their new class and get to know his/her teachers whilst you attend information sessions in the school hall. Towards the end of each session there will be an opportunity for teachers, children and parents to all engage together in an art/craft activity. The information sessions will enable you to find out more about what your child will learn about in EYFS and how you can support your child prior to them starting school.

There are two out of the four sessions offered to each family. We will let you know which ones you should attend nearer the time. It is important that your child attends both sessions offered.

  • Tuesday 8th July & Tuesday 15th July - 3:30pm-4:30pm
  • Thursday 10th July & Thursday 17th July - 3:30pm-4:30pm

Meet and Greet Sessions –3rd, 4th and 5th September

Your child’s class teacher and teaching assistant would like to meet you and your child.  Our aim is to get to know you both and in particular your child, to form the beginnings of a strong and positive relationship between teacher and child.  The visit will give you the opportunity to talk freely with the teachers and teaching assistants.  It will last for about half an hour and we ask that you stick to the time we give you due to the large number of children we have to see.  Visit times will be allocated and given to you at the end of June.

Starting School

Your child will start school on Monday 8th September either in the morning or afternoon. They will continue to attend a morning or afternoon session for five days. On Friday the 12th September your child will have lunch with us and Monday 15th September will be their first full day at school.

The morning and afternoon sessions will be as follows:

Between Monday 8th September and Thursday 11th September:

  • Morning session: 8.50am – 11.45am
  • Afternoon session: 12.35 – 3.30pm

Friday 12th September:

  • Morning session: 8.50am – 11.45am
  • Afternoon session: 12.15pm – 3.30pm

Dividing the children between morning and afternoon sessions over this short period also creates smaller groups and this helps children and adults to get to know one another quicker.  Our experience is that initially children get very tired during their first few weeks of school, even if they have attended full-time Nursery provision. The children have so much to learn, new routines, friends and surroundings. A phased starting school plan enables us to make the whole experience a positive one.

We can't wait to meet you and for your learning journey with the Willesborough Schools to begin!
