Term 1 Topic Plan for Parents

Term 2 Topic Plan for Parents

In term 2 we have been learning about the Great Fire of London.

We had a super time taking part in a drama workshop all about the Great Fire of London. We spent a whole day on a design and technology project where we made Tudor houses. We planned our designs carefully before making them and then evaluated our houses.

In science we have been identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for particular uses. We went out and about to see how materials were used in and around our school. We were brilliant scientists and carried out some tests on different materials. We learnt how the shape of some materials can be changed by twisting, stretching, bending and squashing. We got in a right mess making some home made goo!

Term 3 Topic Plan for Parents

Our exciting topic for term 3 is ‘Superheroes’.

We have been looking at the lives of real life heroes such as Florence Nightingale and local charity workers. We were visited by Maggie Thomas from the RSPCA Garden Cattery in Ashford. She told us all about the amazing work of the charity in rehoming cats and kittens. Some of us even got the chance to visit the cattery and loved spending some time with our new fluffy friends! It’s been a term of visits! Owen Griffiths, from the registered charity ‘Just Different’, came to school and spoke to us about his disability and the work of the charity in creating positive social attitudes towards disability and difference among children and young people. In PE, we have been developing skills such as co-operation and turn taking  in our work on team games. We’ve had great fun!

Term 4 Topic Plan for Parents

Our topic for Term 4 is 'Truly Scrumptious'

How exciting, we have a ‘Truly Scrumptious’ topic this term! In English we have been writing some mouth-watering stories such as our own version of The Gingerbread Man. We have enjoyed reading Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and have been finding out about the adventures of young Charlie Bucket inside the chocolate factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. You may even have seen some adults and children dressed as Oompa Loompas during our Book Week this term!

We had an egg-citing week during Book Week when we were visited by the author of ‘The Egg’, Mark Robertson. Some very strange eggs suddenly appeared all round the school during the week! We wrote some fantastic stories about the imaginary creatures inside the eggs and the adventures they had.

In science we have planted some sunflower seeds and dwarf hyacinth and narcissi bulbs. We are keeping a diary each week to track the growth of the plants and observe the changes that happen.

We have been huffing and puffing during our ‘Fun Fit’ PE lessons this term. We have been improving our fitness levels and co-ordination, and noticing the changes that happen to our bodies when we exercise.

Thank you to all the parents who helped on our trip to the church and thank you to Reverend John for letting us visit. Reverend John told us all about the church and the important Christian symbols. We had great fun exploring the church!

Term 5 Topic Plan for Parents

Year 2 Term 5

We have been learning all about space in our topic ‘Space Quest’ this term. We had a fantastic trip to the Science Observatory where we discovered lots of things about space and science. One of our favourite parts of the day was The Discovery Park. It was amazing! We absolutely loved exploring the large interactive exhibits. It was like a ‘Science Playground' where we learnt about forces, movement, genetics and sound.

Also in science we have been planting cress seeds to see what plants need in order to survive. We have set up some comparative tests to see if plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. We shall be looking at the results soon!

In PE we have been practising our throwing and catching skills and using these in fun small team games.
