Term 2 Topic Plan for Parents

What a great start to Term 2!

We began the new term by learning all about the Hindu festival, Diwali and even writing a Diwali poem using our 5 senses to help us. We created rangoli patterns in Let's explore, prepared the classroom by giving it a good tidy and made Diwali decorations to hang! We enjoyed seeing so many parents at big breakfast and showing off our tricky word knowledge, we are getting so good at those tricky words now! As the weather has got colder... we began our next theme of FROZEN! We have enjoyed watching clips of the film and describing the characters with our amazing adjectives! We have been busy writing riddles based on the FROZEN characters and designing our own ice creams, yum yum! In PE, we have started our Yoga lessons and learnt lots of new balances, like the 'tree', the 'aeroplane' and the 'boat'. We particularly enjoyed using our very own Yoga mats! We are so excited about our new topic 'The Big Freeze' and look forward to lots more learning later this term! :)

Term 3 Topic Plan for Parents

Once upon a time... there were four year 1 classes who love learning!

The term started off by learning all about castles.  We learnt about the different features of castles and in week 2 we became knights! We learnt about the armour and weapons then found out lots of fascinating facts about Henry VIII, we loved it! In PE we have been kings and queens, performing lots of partner and group sequences and even got to dress up on our King and Queen day!  In maths we have been brushing up on our addition and subtraction  skills, we are getting so good now! In relation to our castle learning we have been investigating the strongest material during lets explore. We decided to test the materials by ripping, bending and crushing them to see which was the most appropriate for a castle, it was a lot of fun! We look forward to the rest of our learning this term.

Term 4 Topic Plan for Parents

We cannot believe we are in Term 4 already, but what a fun term it has been so far! The first week back we had some strange vegetables appearing around our school, broccoli in the garden, carrots in the office and even onions in Mrs Rusbridge's office! So we decided to spread the word by writing a newspaper article to warn the people of Ashford. In Maths we have been shape detectives, searching for 3d shapes around the school and using special words, like vertices, edges and faces to describe their properties. Book Week was so much fun learning about 'The Egg' book, we even had a visit from the author and eggs were popping up everywhere! In P.E we have been learning our Jack and The Beanstalk dance and thinking of actions for lots of different animals. We love performing to each other! Lots more learning to come... :)

Term 5 Topic Plan for Parents

We have had such an exciting term so far and we were all counting down the days to our trip to Wingham! Before we visited the park we learnt a range of facts about different animals we might see there and created our own factual leaflets showing everything we had learnt. In P.E we have continued with our animal theme and learnt new yoga balances, for example the downward dog, the tiger crouch and the panda salute. In our Maths learning we have been practising our division and multiplication... we are getting so good at it now, Year 2 here we come! This term we have been artists and created some beautiful animal patterns and animal pictures using a range of different media.
