Exciting new projects

A really exciting thing has happened in our school we now have 3 pet guinea pigs!

Their names are "Wonder, Inspire and Shine"

Improvements to Buildings and Facilities in our Reception Classes Summer 2014

We have been busy over the summer holidays updating our Reception class facilities. All four classes are now linked together. They are freshly painted, there are new toilets and new floor coverings. Including resources we have spent more than £50,000 on updating these facilities over the past few months.

Improvements to Buildings and Facilities in our Year One Classes Summer 2015

We have been busy over the summer holidays updating our Year One class facilities. All four classes are now linked together. They are freshly painted, there are new toilets and new floor coverings. As part of this project we have relocated and updated our Library and Computer Suite.  Including resources we have spent more than £100,000 on updating these facilities. Thanks to our PTA WISS for helping us to buy new resources for the Library and Computer Suite!

Improvements to Buildings and Facilities in Reception and Year Two Summer 2016

We love a summer building project :) Our Year Two classrooms and 'pod' have been re floored and freshly painted throughout. This will be the third year in succession that this cohort of children have been spoilt with new buildings and facilities.

More changes have been afoot in Reception this year too. The Local Authority asked us to admit an additional class this year. They provided funding for building work, resources and 'set up' which has had a huge impact on our whole EYFS provision.

Breakfast and After School Care for Reception - 'Sunshines'

We have been pleased to be able to respond to the requests of parents by opening 'Sunshines' in September 2014. A number of parents use this provision and we are working with the Junior School to establish links between 'Sunshines' and 'WASPs'. In September 2015 we were pleased to respond yet again to requests from parents to extend our Breakfast and After School provision to Year One children. Our Year One and Reception children now enjoy full extended day care provision. Year Two children attend WASPS at the Junior School. We will never refuse a parent before or after school care provision based on numbers for provision.

International Week

Our first International Week was on the 20th October 2014. Wow, what an exciting week this was! The children enjoyed; Indian Henna and Rangoli artwork, African drumming, Bollywood style dancing and International Athletes. A number of parents and volunteers came to share aspects of their culture with us.

We have now made this an annual event, with the children enjoying their third experience in October 2016.

Something landed in our school grounds! What can it be?

No it's not an alien spaceship it's our new scooter and bike park.
Our Eco club want to encourage people to walk, scoot or bike to school and this is a great start. We have seen some excellent cyclists through our Balanceability PE scheme. We will soon be launching 'Walk on Wednesday'. Every child who walks, scoots or bikes to school every Wednesday will be awarded a WOW sticker.

Committed to Working with and for the Community .....

Since January 2015, we have been delighted to provide St Mary's Church, Willesborough with a venue for its Sunday services and Thursday toddler sessions. St Mary's are having major building works which will go on for sometime. It's good to know that our school is being used at the weekends as well as on weekdays. The toddler group have met in Sunshines on Thursday mornings. Needless to say, many of the parents who attended the church group, attended ours on Monday afternoon.

In September 2015 the church buildings were finished! The parishioners have now moved back into lovely new buildings. We still enjoy having the Brownies with us.

Eco Club have won some money!

Our Eco Club applied for funding from the Bedgebury Foundation and were given over £1,875 in January 2015. This meant that they could use some of it to build their mini beast hotel. John, our school caretaker, has built a fantastic hotel and all the children are using it to discover what goes on in another world.

Sharing Good Practice with other Schools and Settings

In January 2015 our Early Years Foundation Stage classes wwre recommended as a model of good practice to other schools and settings by the Local Authority. This is well deserved by our fantastic Reception team.

A year on and our school expertise grows and grows. We enjoy welcoming visiting practitioners from a range of settings to see what we do. Their focus includes transition from EYFS to Year One, Year One provision, Writing teaching and learning and leadership.

We run lots of workshops and courses for professionals from other schools too.
